Prof. Djordje Radak is general and vascular surgeon with endovascular experience dealing with treatment of carotid, aneurysmal, aortic, peripheral and venous disease . He was a member of the team that in the 90s performed the first liver and pancreas transplant in Serbia. He was the first in Serbia who introduced: eversion carotid endarterectomy under cervical block (1993), reconstruction of the vertebral artery (1993) and endovascular treatment of thoracic aortic aneurysm with stent graft (2004). He initiated an innovative method of autologous transfusion during major vascular reconstruction (1992), resection of thoracoabdominal aneurysm (1997), the first endovascular and endovenous interventions in Serbia, as well as medial visceral rotation approach for tumor resection (1998). Prof. Radak performs over 600 vascular interventions annually. Treatment of brain ischemia caused by carotid arteries disease has made the clinic run by prof. Radak well-known beyond the borders of Europe. The greatest interest of the professional public was caused by his introduction of eversion carotid endarterectomy (1993)). Thanks to his engagement, the Clinic for vascular surgery of the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases ''Dedinje'' has become a "High volume" center that annually performs about 20,000 angiological examinations, 2,000 open arterial reconstructions and about 1.000 endovascular interventions, with results at the level of the world's best centers.
Prof. Radak was editor of the 5 national guidelines for good clinical practice in the field of vascular surgery and angiology. He has trained more than 40 vascular surgeons in Serbia and abroad.
He was vice-dean of the Medical Faculty in Belgrade (2002). His monographs "Surgical approaches to arteries" , and a monograph "Carotid Surgery" have been published in two editions. He is the founder of the School for Angiologic Ultrasound Diagnostics, with practical training based on "Hands on" principles. "Carotid Surgery"
In addition, he is the editor and author of 5 books in a total of 20 chapters in various books and monographs. He has published over 230 papers, with more than 2.500 citations.
Professor Radak was the principal investigator or collaborator 9 international multicentic research projects.
